Dress Code

The dress code is in effect from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. or until the students leave the building at the end of the normal school day.

Girls

Pants: The uniform pants are khaki in color. They are pleated or plain front. Pants are to be purchased from the UNIFORM SUPPLIERS or are to be a classic cut khaki style of pants. The pants are to be a polyester/cotton blend or all cotton. Pants must be of the same style or color as pants from the uniform supplier. Pants are to be tapered or straight-legged; no flare-bottom or bell bottom pants are permitted. Pants must have belt loops and cannot have jeans-like stitching or patch pockets. They may not have split seams or frayed legs. Pants must fit properly and be worn at the natural waistline.

Belts: A dress belt, appropriate for school, is required at all times.

Blouses: Blouses must be white or light blue oxford-style with a button down collar. They are to have long or short sleeves (three quarter sleeves are not permitted) and button all the way down the front. The blouse must be fully buttoned with the exception of the collar button and be fully and properly tucked in. No additional shirt or blouse may be worn. Blouses do not have a monogram or trademark emblem. Undergarments, t-shirts, or thermal shirts worn under the regulation blouse must be solid white and sleeves may be no longer than those of the blouse.  Solid white turtlenecks will be permitted under the regulation blouse only during the winter months.  No denim shirts are permitted. The blouse must fit properly; no form-fitting blouses are permitted. During the months of August, September, and May a polo shirt may be worn. The shirt must be white or navy blue, purchased from the UNIFORM SUPPLIER, and have the appropriate UNIFORM SUPPLIER embroidered logo on it.  

Sweaters: A school sweater, in SOLID COLOR, MUST BE PURCHASED FROM THE UNIFORM SUPPLIER. The sweater is available in either V-neck or sweater vest styles. The sweater is to be monogrammed with Memorial High School. Varsity athletic sweaters are also permitted.

Sweatshirt: The authorized school sweatshirt may be ordered from the Assistant Principal for Student Services.

Jewelry: Body piercing jewelry, except for earrings, is not permitted. Multiple earrings which could be considered disruptive are not permitted.

Shoes: Shoes appropriate for school are to be worn. Sandals, canvas shoes, athletic shoes, open back shoes and boots are unacceptable for school wear. Dress shoes must have a closed heel. The wearing of athletic shoes is permitted for medical reasons upon the presentation of a note to the Assistant Principal for Student Services from a medical doctor stating their necessity. The permission is limited to one week. A parental note is not sufficient.

Ties: Neckties are to properly tied and worn the entire school day only with the oxford shirt.

Socks: Socks must be worn at all times. Socks must be of crew length or longer.

Specifically Prohibited Items:

1) Shirts or sweaters tied around the waist.
2) Wallet chains.
3) Torn, ripped, cut, split, frayed or worn-out clothing or footwear.
4) Sandals and open heeled shoes.
5) Coats and jackets intended for outdoor use.
6) Visible body piercing except for earrings on the girls.
7) Visible tattoos.

HAIR

1. Hair should be kept clean and properly styled.

2. Boys' hair may be no longer than the collar length and mid-ear  on sides. Students will be given three days in which to comply with this rule after a warning is given. Failure to do so will result in the student being suspended from school until he complies with the rule. Saturday school will not be an option for this suspension time. No make up credit will be allowed for time missed due to suspension.

3. A second offense will result in the student being assigned to In-School Suspension.  

4. Hairstyles and hair coloring bordering on the extreme will not be permitted.

5. Boys must be clean-shaven; mustaches and beards are not permitted. Sideburns should be no longer than the bottom of the ear.

Memorial Spirit Dress Days

The first Friday of each month will be Memorial Spirit Day. Students are expected to observe the ordinary rules of neatness, cleanliness, modesty, and good taste. Students will not be permitted to attend class unless they meet the dress code. If they choose, students may wear regular uniform dress on these days.

A professionally made MEMORIAL shirt, t-shirt, sweatshirt, team shirt or sweater may be worn. Jeans and athletic shoes may be worn with a MEMORIAL shirt. Socks and belts are required. Jeans may not have rips, tears, holes, or be split or frayed. No tight or low cut jeans are permitted. Shirts may not be short or excessively tight.

Tuition Assistance

Tuition assistance is available through the Catholic Education Foundation, Diocese of Evansville, Inc.

THE CATHOLIC EDUCATION FOUNDATION (CEF) is a non-profit organization established in 1968 to provide tuition assistance for Reitz Memorial and Mater Dei High School students.  Funding is mostly through private and corporate donations to a yearly campaign.

Tuition grants are awarded on the basis of financial need. CEF grants provide partial tuition assistance to students. Actual amounts vary based on the degree of financial need. Out of respect for those who seek assistance, applications are reviewed without knowledge of the applicant's name and all awards are kept in the strictest confidence. 

HOW TO APPLY:

1. Register at the Catholic high school where you plan to attend.  CEF tuition assistance is available to students wishing to attend either Reitz Memorial or Mater Dei High School.
    

2. Applications for the 2009-2010 school year will be available for downloading from this website by January 1, 2009. Printed applications will be available by January 20, 2009 at the Principal's office at Memorial High School, as well as at Catholic grade school offices (where middle school students are enrolled) and at Catholic parish offices. Most of the available funding for tuition assistance will be awarded to those who apply by the March 15, 2009 deadline. Appeals and late applications must be submitted by July 1, 2009.

Open Campus

Each Wednesday the seniors are given the opportunity to leave the campus and eat at a local restaurant provided they follow these guidelines.

The responsibility for seniors who choose to leave school during the lunch period rests solely on the parents and the students and not the school.  

1. Students who return to school early from lunch are to go directly to the cafeteria. Students should not loiter outside the school or in the hallways within school.
   
   

2. Students are not to have non-students meet or pick them up on campus.
   
   

3. Students should promptly leave their cars upon returning to campus.
   
   

4. Smoking on school grounds, drinking, or other violations during open campus carry the regular penalties as established in the Student-Parent Handbook and may also result in the cancellation of the open campus lunch privilege for the rest of the school year.
   
   

5. All tardies from open campus lunch are unexcused and will count toward the four tardies allowed per semester. Two tardies from open campus cancel the privilege for the student for the remainder of the school year.
   
   

6. Students who abuse the open campus privilege by being more than five minutes late may be treated as truant from school.

Service Hour Requirements

Because of its significance to the comprehensive educational process described in our philosophy of education, all students must actively participate in the service program for graduation from Reitz Memorial High School.  The following lists the required hours for each year.

Service hours forms are color-coded and should be obtained from Mrs. Morris in Room 300.  However, service forms may be downloaded and printed.  Service form in pdf                        

Service hours should be reported each school year to Mrs. Morris, the Student Service Program Coordinator, by the end of the semester in which the student has Theology class.  Freshman students differ from this, in that, they have Theology for a full year.  Their hours should be turned in by May 1.  Students who fail to report the required number of service hours are subject to disciplinary action.  Seniors must complete their service hours before graduation.

From US 41:  Turn east on Lincoln Ave.  Memorial will be 1/2 mile on your left.
