Extracurricular and Co-Curricular Programs



Academic Competition Teams 

Students compete against other schools after learning (as a team) specific subjects for competition. Academic Superbowl is open to Freshmen.  Competition is in the Spring.

Tiger Ambassadors 

Inaugurated in the fall, The Tiger Ambassadors is an elite group of students who apply for and are selected by the Principal and a Faculty committee to represent Memorial High School, its administration, faculty and staff.  Ambassadors, wearing a blazer with the Memorial crest, may act as tour guides for students interested in enrolling at Memorial and their families as well as visiting friends or alumni.  Ambassadors will help distribute information and give directions when groups are in the building such as for Open House, Meet the Teachers Night and Freshman Orientation.  Additionally, Tiger Ambassadors may also be asked to represent Memorial at community functions where we wish to show the best that Memorial has to offer.

Junior/Senior Ments

The mentoring program at Memorial was developed with two reasons in mind: The first is connecting the classes and allowing freshman to become comfortable in their new settings.  The second is to allow the opportunity for peer ministry as juniors and seniors facilitate retreats for freshman and sophomores.

Spellbowl

A group of students who compete in Spelling academic competitions. Students from all grade levels can try out. There is a minimum of ten students on this team.

Intramural Sports

Junior and senior male students play basketball for five weeks in winter.

Baseball Club

Students learn the fundamentals of baseball, participate in baseball program fundraisers, and organize off-season workouts, etc. This club is open to all students.

Bowling Club

Bowling Club consists of a ten-week league style practice at Willow Bowling Center in the fall, followed by team competition for both boys and girls during the winter.  The teams, consisting of five bowlers and two alternates each, compete against Evansville area schools including Boonville and Mt. Vernon at bowling centers throughout the city.  Bowling sectionals usually begin the first week of February.

Close-Up

This club is open to upperclassmen and a group of selected sophomores who want to discover an in-depth governmental study using Washington, D.C. as a classroom.

Debate

This club is for students who want to be challenged and have fun at the same time. This is excellent academic preparation for college and career.

French Club

French Club allows students a bi-monthly opportunity to use their skills in fun activities during SRB and after school.  Members celebrate French holidays and participate in cultural events.

German Club

German Club allows students a monthly opportunity to experience German cultural activities including the St. Nicholas Fest at the University of Evansville. 

Spanish Club

The Spanish Club is a social organization composed of students who are studying the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. The members celebrate Hispanic holidays, complete a service project, attend assemblies given by native speakers, and attend a dinner at a local Mexican restaurant.

Key Club

This club is a service organization sponsored by Kiwanis International.  Students in Grades 9 – 12 are welcome to participate. Service projects for the school, church, and community are performed throughout the year.

National Honor Society

The National Honor Society promotes recognition for those students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Membership is determined by an application and review process.

Newspaper

The View staff meets as a class every other day. Its mission is to plan, write, layout and sell the student newspaper.

Yearbook

Yearbook is a production class for Juniors and Seniors who participate in the publication of the school’s annual yearbook, "The Review".  Staff members apply to the adviser to take the class.

Tiger Pride

Pep Club is a student organization promoting school spirit through various activities throughout the year.

Speech

Speech is a year-long activity with novice and varsity competition. There are twelve categories for students to choose an area for competition.

Spiritual Life Committee

The primary purpose of the Spiritual Life Committee is to help plan all the masses and prayer services throughout the school year.

Membership includes the council officers, class officers, homeroom representatives, and walk-on members. The council coordinates a wide variety of projects, ranging from dances to pep assemblies to school and community service projects. This group enables students to develop and to use their leadership skills.

Teens for Life

Teens for Life is a club devoted to supporting and insuring respect for all forms of life.  The club participates in pro-life activities, including The Life Chain, nursing home visits, Special Olympics, the Life Rally and March in Washington, D.C., as well other pro-life related causes.

T.I.D.E. (Tigers in Drug Education)

This club provides students an opportunity to participate and plan activities that encourage a drug-free environment within their school and community.

Tiger P.A.C.  

This performing arts club is open to any student interested in performing arts.  This group attends theatre workshops and performances throughout the year.

Performing Arts

This club is open to anyone who is interested in the theater. The meetings are planned by the Thespian officers and consist of theater games, discussions and information about the plays presented at Memorial.

Thespians

This is an honor society. A member must work 100 hours on stage productions at Memorial. A student must work on a crew or have an acting part to be rewarded hours towards Thespian membership.

Stage Crew

The crew consists of students who help construct a set and then work backstage during the production. The students who put forth the most effort are asked to work on stage during the play.

Tri-M Music

The Tri-M Music club is for those members of the music dept. with a GPA of 4.5 or higher. You are required to perform a musical solo or ensemble to join. After that you can attend the Tri-M meetings and participate in Tri-M activities and fund-raisers.

Flag Corps/Color Guard

The Color Guard are the members of the marching band who march onto the field and do various types of guard work such as flags, dance, rifles, and sabers. This is an excellent group to join if you want to be a part of the marching band but do not play any instrument, or do not want to march your instrument.

The Band of Memorial is a great way to play an instrument you love and meet new people. First semester in class is Marching and Concert. It is also when Pep-Band starts to play for the Basketball games. Jazz band starts early in the year as well. Second semester in class is Mostly concert music.

Chorus and Concert Choir are the vocal sides of the Music Organizations. First year students go to Chorus and then can try out for Concert Choir.
