Through an organized course
of studies for every level from freshmen through seniors, the content of
theology emphasizes the importance of faith in our school community.
A broad spectrum of subjects
is explored during the four year sequence of courses, including:
| - |
The basic teachings of
the Catholic Church |
| - |
Exposure to the major
teachings of the Old and New Testaments |
| - |
The meaning and practice
of personal faith, prayer, and worship |
| - |
The nature and specific
elements of the Sacraments |
| - |
A detailed examination
of moral issues and decision-making |
| - |
Some important
highlights of Church history |
| - |
Christian lifestyles -
with an emphasis on marriage and parenting,
and the relationship of human development and growth in faith |
Class discussions are encouraged at every level to provide students with
opportunities to share their ideas and to ask questions.
Of course, not everything in theology courses is
intellectual. Various teachers offer unique and meaningful prayer
experiences to enhance and expand course content.
The theology department also examines some
ancillary issues, such as Major World Religions, and the questions
involved with the Book of Revelation and the End of the World.
An elective course entitled The Bible in Depth
also allows students to investigate Biblical materials in more detail and
to learn something of the cultural, linguistic, and historical context
with influences Biblical interpretation.
In addition, the theology department works in
conjunction with the Chaplain to provide recurring opportunities for
student prayer and worship.
